Who we are
Welcome to BioMusic, a research-driven application developed to support emotional communication for non-communicative patients. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use the BioMusic app.
BioMusic is part of a research initiative led by McGill University. The app collects physiological data through a finger-worn sensor strap to help interpret emotional states in patients who are unable to communicate verbally. This information is intended to support caregivers and care staff in providing more responsive and compassionate care.
We may update this policy from time to time, so we encourage you to review the policy periodically. Any changes made to the policy will be effective immediately as of the posting of the revised policy.
What Data We Collect
Biometric Data: Heart rate, skin conductance, and other vital signs captured via the sensor strap.
Device & Usage Data: Information about how the app is used, including session duration and interaction patterns.
How Your Data Is Used
Your data is used exclusively for research and care-enhancement purposes:
To improve the app’s performance and accuracy over time.
To analyze physiological signals and infer emotional states.
To support McGill University’s research into improving communication for non-verbal patients.
Data Sharing and Access
We take data protection seriously:
Regular audits and security reviews are conducted to ensure compliance with best practices. All data is encrypted during transmission.
Consent
By using BioMusic, you acknowledge and consent to the collection and use of your data as described in this policy. If you are a caregiver or legal guardian, you confirm that you have the authority to provide consent on behalf of the patient.
